Storyline

A young woman remembers the time when as a little girl she witnessed her father getting killed by cult members. She is then adopted by a society of assassins and trained for many years to become a ballerina, body guard and assassin. She performs well in all these activities to the satisfaction of her superiors. Her heart however is made up to seek vengeance against the killers of her father. Despite being warned not to take up this dangerous mission she goes ahead and single handedly wages war against them.

Following the murder of her father, Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) is trained to be an assassin by criminal organisation Ruska Roma. Once on field, she goes rogue in pursuit of the man who destroyed her family. To achieve that, she needs to fight his entire tribe on her own.Ballerina  Review:

Hollywood has generated a spade of female-led badass babe-action thrillers. Angelina Jolie in Salt and Wanted, Scarlett Johansson starrer Black Widow, Jennifer Lawrence in Red Sparrow, Linda Hamilton in Terminator, the examples are plenty. What sets Ballerina apart, beyond its terrific action choreography, is its casting. 

Ana de Armas’ Eve is fierce yet feminine. She’s hardened by life but not bereft of emotion. The softness of her past isn’t eroded by the brutalities of her present. She kills like an assassin but empathises like a woman--she fights like a girl. Director Len Wiseman creates a distinct lead that doesn’t aspire to be a John Wick and Ana de Armas’ casting is a cherry on top. The actress blends pulsating action and vulnerability flawlessly. She is one woman army who only trusts her instincts.

A spin-off stemming from a formulaic origin story, the real dance in Ballerina is the spectacular action set pieces that play out at a lightning speed. Whether it’s a deadly hand-to-hand combat or guns, knives, sword, flame-throwers, fire extinguishers or virtually any weapon within an arm’s reach, the film has it covered. There’s a little humour too, but the film stays rooted in its no nonsense-action origin. Two action scenes in particular are outstanding and amp up the drama.

 ‘G20’ is a ludicrous yet entertaining film built around an absurd premise. It’s the kind of film where nothing is meant to be taken seriously—the only aim is to have a good time. Viola Davis, no stranger to intense, high-concept roles, seems to have signed on purely for fun, and it shows. As US President, she shoots, fights, and juggles her role as a devoted mother and wife. Amid all the global political posturing, there’s plenty of action involving powerful world leaders caught in the chaos. If you go in expecting little and are willing to suspend disbelief, you might just enjoy the sheer silliness of it all.The story revolves around President Danielle Sutton (Viola Davis) as she heads to Cape Town, South Africa, for the G20 summit. Her agenda is to push a proposal that aims to tackle world hunger by offering digital banking solutions to poor African farmers. Opposing her is Rutledge (Antony Starr), a former Australian military man turned private contractor, who sees this as an attempt by global leaders to expand their financial control. Advocating for cryptocurrency as an alternative, he stages a coup at the summit with help from insiders. Most world leaders are taken hostage, except those from the US, UK, China, and Turkey, who manage to escape. What unfolds is a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game led by Danielle and her trusted Secret Service agent, Manny (Ramon Rodriguez), as they try to foil Rutledge’s plan.‘G20’ tries to reinvent the ‘Die Hard’ template with a modern-day twist, incorporating buzzwords like crypto, AI deepfakes, and economic reform—but these themes are handled only at a surface level. The film is packed with clichés, and Rutledge’s core ideology, while provocative, lacks real substance. Still, the film works in flashes. Danielle’s relationship with her daughter adds some emotional grounding, evolving from strained to tender. The action scenes are staged with flair and provide the kind of thrill the genre demands.Viola Davis commands the screen as Danielle Sutton, embodying a battle-hardened president with conviction and just the right amount of swagger. While the screenplay limits her potential, she still manages to deliver a strong performance. Antony Starr is effective as the ruthless antagonist Rutledge—he's cold, calculated, and convincingly brutal. But it’s Ramon Rodriguez as Manny who truly shines. As the agent assigned to protect the president, he brings heart and intensity, transitioning smoothly from easy-going sidekick to determined protector once the stakes rise.

They Call Him OG  Review:

Pawan Kalyan commands the screen with charisma and intensity as OG. His action sequences combine martial arts, swordplay and gritty gunfights, bringing back memories of his performances in Johnny and Badri. Emraan Hashmi makes a strong impact as the menacing Omi, though his character could have used more depth. It still works as a promising debut in this space.

Japanese actor Kazuki Kitamura’s brief but memorable cameo hints at bigger things ahead, keeping fans curious for the sequel. Sriya Reddy delivers a solid performance, while Priyanka Arul Mohan’s Kanmani feels underwritten. Prakash Raj, as Satya Dada, brings authority and intensity, especially in his dynamic with OG. Arjun Das too leaves an impression.Director Sujeeth leans heavily on star power, often at the cost of layered storytelling and character arcs. Several subplots are undercooked, and familiar tropes such as the wife’s murder and the daughter’s kidnapping feel formulaic. Thaman’s rousing soundtrack, however, injects energy into the action sequences.The film has its shortcomings in emotional depth and narrative finesse, but it still succeeds as a stylish action drama with flair.

Empuraan starts out as a brave, bold film. Not for its budget and ambition alone, but also for the subject, with the quite upfront political portrayals.The first half goes with the textbook 'thrill every few minutes' formula. After a brief geopolitical voiceover - about an Afro-China God Axis vs an Indo-Arab Lucifer nexus - and an action sequence in Iran, the story moves to the 2002 riots in west India. It tells the backstory of a young Zayed Masood (Prithviraj), the shadowy figure accompanying Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab’raam in the first film, Lucifer. It’s a villain origin story- or in this case - anti-hero origin story, with Zayed's parents and family facing the brunt of the riots in communal clashes, under a new, rising political order, under a leader named Bajrangi.About two decades later, when the scene shifts to Kerala, our investigative news vlogger, Govardhan (Indrajith), is on a satellite call with an intelligence officer to know why Bajrangi is interested in Kerala. Soon enough, Jathin Ramdas (Tovino Thomas), a once idealistic chief minister, now at odds with his party and sister Priyadarshini (Manju Warrier), reveals in a surprise announcement that he is making a change in his politics. It means, Kerala is going to sink into communal politics.This change compels Govardhan to ask Stephen Nedumpally, whose whereabouts are not known, to return to Kerala. The international wheeler dealer, meanwhile, continues on his ‘narcotics is a dirty business’ (Lucifer reference) drive and destroys a $1billion drug shipment going to Europe via Senegal, from South America. This is where the film peaks on its mass entertainment value, with Khureshi marking his screen entry on an Apache in the west African desert. So far so fire.

The highly anticipated film Game Changer, directed by Shankar and featuring Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, and Anjali alongside SJ Suryah and Srikanth in pivotal roles, is a political action drama that delves into the murky waters of corruption within the Indian political system. Shankar, renowned for his grand storytelling, makes his Telugu directorial debut with Game Changer. His signature style is evident in the film's lavish production and narrative structure. The story, penned by Karthik Subbaraj, weaves together action, drama, and social commentary, though it occasionally leans heavily on familiar tropes.Ram Charan delivers a compelling performance in dual roles, seamlessly transitioning between the principled Ram Nandan and the rustic Appanna. As the central figure of the story, he carries the narrative with remarkable ease. While his portrayal of Ram Nandan is high on style and swag, it is his heartfelt performance as Appanna that truly resonates with the audience.Kiara Advani, as Deepika, plays Ram Nandan’s love interest. The latter part of the film takes a different trajectory, transitioning into a politically driven narrative rooted in the soil. The screenplay, treatment, and even the colour palette shift to complement this transformation.Thaman's musical score elevates the film, with a soundtrack that complements its themes. Tirru's cinematography captures both the grandeur and grit of the story, employing dynamic visuals that enhance the viewing experience. Editing by Shameer Muhammed and Ruben ensures a cohesive narrative flow. The production values reflect Shankar's commitment to high-quality filmmaking, with grandiose visuals in the song sequences. "Jaragandi" stands out as the highlight track, while the popular "Naanaa Hyraanaa" is yet to make its way into the final cut. The team has announced its inclusion starting January 14.While Game Changer impresses with its grand visuals and socially relevant themes, it falters in areas that detract from its overall impact. The narrative occasionally veers into predictability, relying on familiar tropes of love, political corruption, and systemic injustice. The screenplay’s didactic tone, though impactful at times, can feel heavy-handed, leaving little room for subtlety.

When the duo that delivered the iconic Nayakan reunite after three decades, our basic expectation is, if not a masterpiece, at least a memorable moviegoing experience. But with Thug Life, both Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan disappoint, delivering one of their weakest efforts, to make us wonder what they saw in this beaten-to-death storyline to get back together again.The film is a collection of gangster movie clichés - gang rivalry, betrayal, jealousy and vengeance - strung together with a plot that revolves around a fearless, respected and seemingly immortal gangster, Rangaraya Sakthivel (Kamal Haasan) and his relationship with Amaran, a boy whose life he accidentally ruins and chooses to raise as his family. He tries to make up for the boy's loss of his father (Ilango Kumaravel) by searching for his lost sister, Chandra, but two decades later, is still unable to.Now, the boy has blossomed into a dashing young gangster (Silambarasan TR), a trusted lieutenant of Sakthivel. Even as the aging gangster faces off with his bitter rival Sadanand (Mahesh Manjrekar), unbeknownst to him, there's a battle coming his way from his own gang members - his elder brother Manickam (Nassar) and the ambitious Pathrose (Joju George) - who turn Amaran against him. Can Sakthivel, who has come face to face with death quite a few times, still manage to evade its grasp?Despite familiar arcs, the leisurely paced first half manages to hold our interest, at least with the anticipation that there must be something deeper coming soon. A couple of arcs, like the one involving Indrani (Trisha), a bar singer who he rescues and makes his concubine, Jayakumar Rayappa (Ashok Selvan), a cop determined to bring down the gangsters, and Deepak (Ali Fazal), Sadanand's nephew who wants to avenge the killing of his brother, along with the running thread of the search for Chandra, hold promise.But soon, with uninspired writing and weak characterisation, Thug Life becomes a slog. The latter half goes haywire with many of the sub-plots from the earlier portions either being diluted or largely getting shoved away for a long amount of time. Even Amaran goes missing for quite some time. Instead what we get are preposterous scenes of Sakthivel's survival after being shot at or stabbed multiple times. The threat of Sadanand ceases to exist and Deepak feels like a weak antagonist who makes moves that are predictable. Even AR Rahman seems to lose interest and delivers a background score that feels random.The rich production values, especially Ravi K Chandran's glossy visuals, the mystery around the fate of Chandra and the inevitable face-off between Sakthivel and Amaran make us stay invested.

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, Kannappa is a sincere attempt at retelling revered lore with visual grandeur. While the film opens on a slow and stretched note, it gradually finds its rhythm and builds to a soul-stirring finale. Vishnu Manchu brings sincerity and steadiness to the lead role. Prabhas makes a dynamic appearance as Rudra, energising the screen with his commanding and entertaining presence. Akshay Kumar makes a confident Telugu debut as Lord Shiva, fitting naturally into the film’s spiritual atmosphere. Kajal Aggarwal adds elegance as Parvati, while Mohanlal’s composed portrayal of Kirata brings a quiet strength to the narrative. Mohan Babu is firm and dependable as Mahadeva Shasthri, and R. Sarathkumar leaves an impression as Nathanathudu.The supporting cast, including Brahmanandam, Madhoo, Siva Balaji, Mukesh Rishi, Devaraj, Brahmaji, and others, contribute meaningfully, helping flesh out the world around Thinnadu.While the film hits the dramatic notes effectively, some of the emotional layers, particularly around Thinnadu’s inner conflict and relationships, could have been explored with more depth. The narrative has heart, but a deeper dive into the character's internal struggles would have added more weight to the transformation.That said, Kannappa scores high on visual and musical impact. Sheldon Chau’s cinematography captures the beauty of forested landscapes and celestial moments with finesse, giving the film a rich visual texture. Some of the VFX elements fall short of the film’s ambition, but the overall sincerity of the production shines through. Stephen Devassy’s background score is another strong point, heightening the emotional beats, especially during the intense and moving final act.Watch it if you enjoy sacred stories with strong visual storytelling and emotional payoff. Kannappa ends on a powerful note that resonates with devotees and admirers of culturally rooted cinema.

Comparisons with ‘28 Days Later’ and ‘28 Weeks Later’ are inevitable, and to get straight to the point—'28 Years Later’ is a technically polished and often striking film, but it lacks the relentless energy and emotional depth of its predecessors. Danny Boyle returns to the director’s chair with a fresh take, blending folk horror with the remnants of a zombie apocalypse, but the story struggles to hold together as it progresses. The premise—an island boy seeking treatment for his sick mother—works well in the beginning, offering a compelling emotional hook. However, the film gradually shifts away from the menace of the Rage virus and veers into melodrama, ultimately dulling its impact.The story unfolds in the secluded beauty of the Scottish Highlands, where Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), his wife Isla (Jodie Comer), and their son Spike (Alfie Williams) live in relative peace on an isolated island community, untouched by the virus. Isla is gravely ill, and Jamie decides to take Spike to the mainland—a journey that feels like a rite of passage to manhood. Their trip begins with suspenseful momentum: lush green jungles teeming with the infected, the silent dread, and a deadly run-in with Alphas. Boyle excels in these sequences, building tension through atmosphere rather than cheap thrills. But once the duo returns to the island and Spike later decides to go back with his mother to seek a “doctor” rumoured to cure the sick, the film begins to lose steam.The second half introduces several subplots and new characters, including the eccentric Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes), who lives in isolation and conducts strange rituals that feel straight out of ‘Apocalypse Now.’ While visually arresting, these moments don’t connect meaningfully to the central narrative. In contrast to the tightly wound tension of the earlier films, the military presence here feels weak and underwritten. In previous entries, soldiers were key drivers of both horror and plot progression; here, their token presence creates a vacuum the script struggles to fill. The shift from survival horror to personal drama may be intentional, but it doesn’t fully pay off.Performance-wise, the film finds solid footing. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Jamie with a mix of control and buried desperation—a man trying to prepare his son for a world he doesn’t fully understand. His affection for Spike is believable, though his emotional distance from Isla and involvement with another islander feels glossed over. Jodie Comer, however, brings raw vulnerability to Isla, especially in a striking sequence involving the delivery of a baby by an infected mother. But it's Alfie Williams as Spike who emerges as the film’s true heart. His performance is quietly powerful, capturing the innocence, curiosity, and courage of a boy on the cusp of transformation.There’s no denying that Boyle still knows how to craft a compelling visual experience. The film’s early scenes are steeped in dread and quiet beauty, the sense of isolation almost poetic. But strong visuals can only carry a film so far. ‘28 Years Later’ starts strong, builds intrigue, and promises something deeper—but ultimately can’t sustain its momentum. Alex Garland’s screenplay has flashes of brilliance, especially in how it explores generational trauma and protection, but the horror elements are inconsistent and the narrative becomes scattered. This isn't a bad film by any means, but it doesn’t live up to the promise of its lineage. What could’ve been a thrilling evolution ends up feeling more like an echo.

‎Director Ryan Coogler began his career with ‘Fruitvale Station,’ a powerful debut that put him on the map. With later films like ‘Creed’ and ‘Black Panther,’ he proved he could tell emotional, action-packed stories with heart and depth. His latest film, ‘Sinners,’ is another strong entry in his filmography. It’s bold, original, and keeps you hooked with its fresh mix of genres. Combining vampires with Southern blues, the film is visually stunning and emotionally rich. It once again proves that Coogler is one of the most exciting filmmakers working today.

‎Set in the 1930s, the story follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack (dual role played by Michael B Jordan), who return to their small Southern town after serving in World War I. Hoping for a fresh start, they open a juke joint—a place where the local Black community can gather, enjoy music, and feel a sense of freedom in an otherwise racist society. The juke joint quickly becomes a symbol of joy and resistance. But on its opening night, something dark and dangerous is set in motion. The brothers attract the attention of Remmick (Jack O’Connell), a mysterious vampire, and soon find themselves fighting not just for their lives, but for their community’s soul.

‎The film gives a new twist to both the vampire genre and historical dramas. The first half of 'Sinners' plays like a period film, showing life in the Jim Crow South, while the second half shifts into a supernatural thriller. Coogler uses the vampire as a symbol for the exploitation of Black culture—how it’s often taken, used, and profited from without respect. Remmick, the vampire, stands in for colonial power and the threat it poses to Black identity and creativity. The story highlights how Black music, art, and history have often been stolen or misrepresented by others.

‎Michael B Jordan plays both Smoke and Stack and carries the film with a powerful dual performance. He gives each brother a unique personality, full of emotion and detail. Hailee Steinfeld plays Mary, a woman caught between protecting her community and surviving the growing threat. Delroy Lindo brings gravitas as the wise Delta Slim, while Wunmi Mosaku as Annie and Miles Caton as Sammie give standout performances that bring energy and heart to the film.

‎While the film takes its time setting up the world—which may feel slow to some—it’s a minor issue. The shift from history to horror might feel sudden, but it’s handled with care. ‘Sinners’ is a bold, genre-blending film that entertains while also making you think. Coogler shows once again that he’s not afraid to take risks—and that those risks pay off.

The move is infuriatingly Cameron: part theatrical purist, part strategist. Whether it’s a bet on the power of the big screen or a calculated attempt to stir conversation in an oversaturated digital age, the rollout is already doing what trailers are already generating anticipation.

‎Unveiled initially at CinemaCon, the Fire & Ash trailer dives deep into uncharted corners of Pandora. Visually, it’s what you’d expect from Wētā Digital and Cameron: fluid aerial battles, bioluminescent wildlife, volcanic landscapes oozing lava, and stunning creature design that blends sci-fi and nature doc vibes.

‎But the real evolution is narrative. The trailer introduces two new Na’vi tribes—the sky-riding Wind Traders and the fiery, ash-covered Mangkwan Clan, led by Oona Chaplin’s formidable Varang. She’s no stock villain. Hardened by tragedy and environmental collapse, Varang has rejected the Na’vi’s nature-worshipping deity, Eywa, and takes the fight to Jake Sully’s clan with flaming arrows.

‎The trailer’s not heavy on dialogue, but the snippets we hear cut deep. Jake warns Neytiri, “We can not live with this hate,” even as he trains his family for war. One of the film’s central tensions seems to be not just between Na’vi and human, but Na’vi versus Na’vi—faith versus fury.

‎Also glimpsed is the adopted human son, Spider, whose well-being is in question, as well as Kiri (Sigourney Weaver) and Ronal (Kate Winslet), whose exchange hints at a larger spiritual reckoning. And in one striking scene, Jake is shown surrounded by human reporters — a reminder that the outside world is still watching, and perhaps manipulating, Pandora’s fate.

Very rarely do you come across a horror film that’s smartly layered, deeply unsettling, dark and amusing, all at once. Weapons ticks all the boxes. Be it the isolated setting, camera work or performances, you feel as much a part of this eerie mystery as the characters.Eerily hynotic, wildly unhinged and chilling to the bone — this brilliantly written small-town mystery is madness wrapped in genius. Zach Cregger’s Weapons is perhaps the best horror film of the year for a reason. 

It doesn’t succumb to any horror tropes and establishes its own cinematic language, pace and style. Even when the storytelling evokes unintentional and awkward humor, terror remains unshakable. Fear never loosens its hold on you. This is something that Ari Aster (Hereditary and Midsommar) and Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope) have achieved over the years in this genre. 

Weapons stands tall in this league of twisted thrillers and will be remembered for a long time.Unique and absolutely terrifying from beginning to end, Weapons unfolds like a suspenseful riddle keeping you on the edge throughout. While the story in itself is intriguing, it’s the clever storytelling and unfolding of events that take the cake. 

A gorgeous blend of crime thriller, mystery and horror, Cregger entraps you in his insane world and you enjoy it there. The climax in particular is a cherry on top.Very rarely do great buildups lead to satisfying payoffs. Weapons achieves that. It’s tense, dark and delirious thrill ride that you shouldn’t miss out on.
