Storyline

As an ancient threat endangers both Vikings and dragons alike on the isle of Berk, the friendship between Hiccup, an inventive Viking, and Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, becomes the key to both species forging a new future together.

How to Train Your Dragon Review:

Most live-action adaptations of animated movies get a bad rap for straying from the source material, subpar CGI, and the stark visual disconnect between the two mediums. Not so with writer-director Dean DeBlois’s outing, which stays remarkably faithful to the original 2010 film on all accounts. The narrative is an almost scene-by-scene replica of the beloved animated fare. And it recreates its world with striking realism and cinematic aesthetics, seamlessly blending human characters and fantastical beasts. The film launches into visually stunning thrills early on with a battle between the Vikings and dragons. Thereafter, it consistently delivers an exciting ride, breathing life into characters and sequences that gobsmacked viewers the first time around. The story follows a clumsy Hiccup, who struggles to live up to his Viking legacy and slay dragons. Instead, he empathises with them and recognises their need to defend themselves. While this premise paves the way for an unlikely bond between humans and dragons, the narrative does not skimp on action, as the two forces clash at the dragons’ nest, home to the monstrous Queen Dragon who demands to be fed.Though the new movie is a respectful and sincere redux, the narrative sometimes lacks the original’s irreverence. The humour is, at times, traded for emotion. Some bits also feel shallow and forced—like Stoick struggling to have a father-son conversation with Hiccup after he returns from a mission to hunt the dragons’ nest. The part about Toothless not being, well, toothless, was one of the most fun moments in the original, which isn’t as impactful here.Cinematographer Bill Pope gives the narrative a captivating look, with misty cliffs, rugged coastlines, rolling meadows, and grey seas. The narrative retains key thrills like Hiccup and Toothless’s flight through the gorges and the Vikings-dragons battle. The set and character as well as creature designs are translated stunningly well.Mason Thames shines as the awkward, lanky Hiccup, while Gerard Butler revisits his voice role with finesse, and the supporting cast stands out, too. Nico Parker is strong as the brave young captain Astrid and pulls off the action scenes with elan. Nick Frost as Gobber, Julian Dennison as the nerdy Fishlegs, Gabriel Howell as the brash Snotlout, and Bronwyn James and Harry Trevaldwyn as twin siblings Ruffnut and Tuffnut round out the ensemble. The immersive ride, where charm meets cinematic spectacle and thrills, makes it a worthwhile watch—both for those new to the Vikings-versus-Dragons world and for returning fans of the beloved franchise.

Storyline
Workaholic assassin Hutch Mansell takes his family on a much-needed vacation to the small tourist town of Plummerville. However, he soon finds himself in the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator, a shady sheriff, and a bloodthirsty crime boss.

Tanvi: The Great Review:
When the original ‘Nobody’ landed in 2021 it felt like a cheeky, blood-soaked answer to the modern revenge/action template set by the ‘John Wick’ franchise — part dark comedy, part bruising choreography — and it created a tidy playground for sequels.'Nobody 2' steps into that playground with a straightforward brief: give audiences more of what worked before while widening the toybox. Director Timo Tjahjanto embraces that mandate, staging set-piece after set-piece in and around an eerily cheerful amusement park that becomes a playground for grisly creativity. The choice of a theme-park backdrop is not new but turns out to be smart nonetheless – it’s visually distinct, it provides novel stunt possibilities and it lets the film alternate between childhood nostalgia and ugly violence with effective contrast. At the centre is Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk), who once again wears the envelope of a mild-mannered suburban dad while hiding lethal skill. He sells the contrast between a worn family man and a trained killer with convincing subtlety. Odenkirk commits fully to the physicality and the comic timing the role requires; his measured, rueful expressions make Hutch a believable and oddly sympathetic engine of mayhem. Around him the supporting cast supplies colour and muscle. Becca (Connie Nielsen) is finally given more to do than in the first film. She shares meaningful moments that strengthen the couple’s dynamic. Family members played by RZA (cousin Harry) and Christopher Lloyd (Hutch’s father David) add texture, reminding viewers that Hutch’s life is more than a string of fights.Yet not every performance lands equally. Lendina (Sharon Stone), conceived as the film’s primary antagonist, is treated with a broad, cartoonish brush that flattens her into a stylish cipher — all-black avatar, dark shades and hair pulled back — rather than a layered, menacing foil. That choice is especially jarring given Stone’s history of playing dangerously complex women; it’s hard not to think of her seductively nuanced, hopelessly lethal Catherine Tramell in ‘Basic Instinct’. It’s disappointing to see a performer of Stone’s calibre relegated to a one-note role that emphasises style over depth.Tonally, the movie often chooses spectacle over soul. The action is loud, cleverly choreographed and frequently entertaining, but the dramatic stakes sometimes feel cursory. The sequel excels when it embraces chaos and momentum; it falters when it tries to manufacture emotional weight from shallow conflicts. Still, there is clear craft in the fight design and a consistent sense that the filmmakers understand their audience’s appetite for kinetic set-pieces.In short, 'Nobody 2' is an assured, unapologetic action sequel: not particularly ambitious, but confident in its purpose. The script by Derek Kolstad and Aaron Rabin moves briskly but limits deeper character work. It will satisfy viewers who came for expertly staged violence and Bob Odenkirk’s surprising physical charisma. Those seeking anything deeper than that might find it wanting.

Storyline

Tanvi Raina, a woman with autism learns of her deceased Indian Army father's dream to salute the flag at Siachen Glacier. Despite barriers facing those with autism in military service, she resolves to complete her mission.

Tanvi: The Great Review:

Anupam Kher returns to direction after more than two decades with a deeply felt drama. ‘Tanvi: The Great’ is a heartfelt film that takes you into the world of a young autistic girl who dares to dream the impossible—to join the Indian Army, like her late father. Kher’s film doesn’t rely on loud drama or larger-than-life characters. Instead, it wins you over with its sincerity, warmth, and ability to touch on an important subject without turning didactic. At its core, this is a film about acceptance—of self, of others, and of the idea that no dream is too big if someone believes in you. It educates without lecturing and moves without manipulating. Kher’s mature direction is backed by an honest script and a cast that delivers across the board. The story begins when Vidya Raina (Pallavi Joshi), an autism expert and single mother, has to attend a conference in the United States. With no other option, she takes her daughter, Tanvi (Shubhangi Dutt) to Lansdowne in Uttarakhand to stay with her grandfather, Colonel Raina (Anupam Kher). He is unfamiliar with autism and initially finds it hard to connect with Tanvi, treating her as he would any other child. Vidya tries to bridge the gap before she leaves, explaining Tanvi’s condition in gentle terms. Slowly, through shared time and small gestures, the bond between Tanvi and her grandfather begins to form. Things change when Tanvi learns about her father—Samar Pratap Raina (Karen Tacker), an army officer who died in service. Inspired, she sets her heart on becoming a soldier herself. Helping her in this journey are Brigadier Joshi (Jackie Shroff), her music teacher Raaz Saab (Boman Irani), and Major Kailash Srinivasan (Arvind Swamy), each playing a small but pivotal role in pushing her closer to her dream. At the center of the film is newcomer Shubhangi Dutt, who plays Tanvi with remarkable poise and innocence. She captures the small nuances of her character with such honesty that the performance never feels like acting. There’s no overstatement, no attempt to draw attention—and that’s exactly why it works. Anupam Kher, as her grandfather, delivers one of his most grounded performances in years. His journey from resistance to recognition is portrayed with emotional precision. Jackie Shroff, though present for a short time, brings empathy to his role. Boman Irani’s understated turn as Tanvi’s music teacher adds warmth, while Arvind Swamy impresses as the ex-Army man running a training academy, lending credibility and calm to the narrative. The screenplay, especially in the first half, is tight and effective. The writers—Suman Ankur, Abhishek Dixit, and Anupam Kher—do a commendable job of introducing characters with care, building emotional beats without rushing them. The film also deserves credit for how it portrays autism. It doesn’t over-explain or dramatize; instead, it invites viewers to observe, understand, and feel. While the second half is slightly longer than necessary and the pace dips near the end, it never becomes dull. MM Keeravani’s music is a perfect companion to the narrative, never overpowering but always present when needed. The cinematography captures the serenity of Lansdowne beautifully, creating a calm backdrop for the emotional storm brewing within the characters.Ultimately, ‘Tanvi: The Great’ is less about autism or the army and more about human connection—how understanding can grow in silence, how dreams can be nurtured by love, and how change often begins with one person choosing to listen. It’s a rare drama that sidesteps melodrama and chooses subtlety. The emotional moments aren’t loud, but they linger. There’s no high-pitched conflict, no exaggerated breakdowns—just quiet, believable relationships and a girl who dares to hope. It’s a film that may not leave you overwhelmed, but it will leave you moved. And sometimes, that’s enough.

Coolie Review:

‎If you’ve ever played three cups, you’d know that the game escalates in pace with each consecutive and more complex move. It gets increasingly hard to track the cup the ball is under. Keeping up with Coolie’s countless plot twists is a bit like that, though with less internal logic. This doesn’t mean you can’t have fun watching the film.

‎Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie is an over-the-top, unabashedly ludicrous, carnivalesque roar. Rajinikanth reminds you beyond doubt why he’s the Superstar. An ageing one, yes, but his performance can still pack a punch.

‎To physically land punches on screen, it’s becoming woefully apparent that he needs the generous help of CGI and stunt ropes. What makes you look past this is how Rajini oozes his trademark style, snark, and charm.

‎The film opens with Deva (Rajini) running a mansion for men and male students in Chennai. The students are ensured free meals and low rent as long as they abide by his no drinking and no smoking policy. Like Baasha (1995) and several other hits, there’s more to Deva’s story than that of a mere proprietor.

‎A tragedy involving Rajasekar (Sathyaraj), an old friend, takes Deva to the Visakhapatnam port. Here, he will infiltrate the criminal operations of Simon or Kingpin (Nagarjuna Akkineni).

‎Simon enforces a brutal and authoritarian hold over the port and its workers. Nagarjuna is at times chilling, at other times almost cartoonish. For the most part, he exudes a careless menace that makes all his confrontations with Rajini compelling.

‎Similar to Jailer (2023), Coolie boasts an ensemble cast of actors from Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada cinema.

‎Soubin Shahir, known to Malayalam audiences for Kumbalangi Nights (2019), Maheshinte Prathikaaram (2016) and Manjummel Boys (2024), among other films, plays Simon’s second-in-command, Dayal. He keeps your head spinning with his unhinged violence and mercurial shifts in personality and motives. Dayal is a stark contrast to Deva and hence, an interesting antagonist.

‎Kannada actor Uppendra provides the story’s first link to Deva’s mysterious past. Unflappable and quick on his feet, his character ratchets up the delirious energy of Coolie’s second half.

‎When Aamir Khan makes his much-awaited cameo, the sequence has an unrestrained and maniacal intensity. This is Aamir’s Kollywood debut, and Coolie ensures it is a cinematic moment that won’t be forgotten soon.

‎Preethi (Shruti Haasan) is mostly present to be abducted and rescued so many times, you eventually lose count. The performance is uneven, as is the dubbing. Preethi’s deer-caught-in-headlights wide-eyed obtuseness becomes quickly grating. The character is just another example of Kollywood’s unwillingness to invest much thought in writing female characters.

‎Deva is the critical peg holding all these characters and their storylines together. Rajini carries this weight smoothly, delivering moments of grief, comedy and triumph with ease. It’s a far cry from his previous Vettaiyan (2024), in which he just seemed tired.

‎Coolie marks fifty years of Rajini in cinema and was bound to recall the actor's hits across a long career.

‎The most obvious, if superficial, reference is to Uzahaippali (1993) in which Rajini played a daily-wage factory worker. The older film is from an era that most Rajini fans likely grew up during. Outfitted in a striking red shirt, stylishly tied off at the ends, Tamilarasan (Rajini) is deeply suspicious of millionaires who, he points out, enrich themselves by exploiting working-class labour.

‎Tamilarasan also wears a metal ID tag around his arm, inscribed with his employee number of 777. In Coolie, the tag makes a sort of comeback. Only this time, it is veiled in secrecy and one predictable plot twist.

‎From the late 1970s, at least into the early 1990s, the actor played working-class heroes in several films. Sometimes, these representations were too simplistic, but the message was clear: On screen, Rajini’s loyalties were to the people, especially daily wage labourers. His characters would often rally against the rich and powerful.

‎Films like Uzhaippali, Mullum Malram (1978), Bairavi (1978) and Mannan (1992) were not without flaws, such as misogyny, but they also highlighted the vulnerability and rights of working-class people.

‎Whether or not Coolie has the same political acumen is hard to say without spoilers. But there are certainly some punchlines that are reminiscent of those earlier films. The final revelation of who Deva really is satisfies Rajini’s fandom while making a stormy statement on labour rights.

‎The action sequences, despite their frequency, don’t exhaust you. Philomin Raj’s edits in Coolie are closer to his work on Vikram (2022) rather than the taxing fight scenes in Leo (2023).

‎The comparison is also applicable to Lokesh. Leo had neither the quirkiness of Master’s (2021) first half nor the entertainingly palatable excesses of Vikram. With Coolie, the director bounces back from his previous disappointing fare.

‎Anirudh’s music may be getting harder to tell apart with each new film when heard on its own, but it fits seamlessly into the events on screen. ‘Uyirnaadi Nanben’ is the one song that stands up without the support of the film. And its placement in Coolie adds a gentle gravitas to a touching sequence.

‎Coolie justifies trading off logic for absorbing and fluffy entertainment. Lokesh’s latest film is ridiculously fun to watch.

Storyline
A searing romantic drama about identity, power, and the cost of love in the world we live in.

Dhadak 2 Review:

The strength of Dhadak lies in its brimming freshness and innocence. That this film presents the new faces of Ishaan (one film old) and Janhvi (who marks her debut in Bollywood) works in the favour of its narrative. Like its original inspiration, Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat, the facet of love trying to survive the cruel world of politics and ruthless societal pressure, makes Dhadak engaging. The film follows the Sairat template for most part, but what is lacks is the grit and detailing of Manjule’s original.

Set in Udaipur, the story begins with young love blossoming in the midst of politics and a dominant class system. Parthavi (Janhvi) is the daughter of a local politician Ratan Singh (Ashutosh Rana), while Madhukar (Ishaan) is the son of a restaurant owner who comes from lower economic strata. Against societal norms, Madhu and Parthavi fall in love, and when her influential family finds out, they tear the lovers apart. The spirited young couple still find a way to elope. The film moves from Udaipur to Mumbai to Kolkata, which is a departure from the original. It's an engaging journey, but the treatment isn't consistent throughout.

With Dhadak, Shashank Khaitan steps out of the ‘Dulhania’ mould for the first time. Yet, his third outing has a lot of visual similarities to his earlier films. Owing to the source material, Dhadak is without doubt, his darkest film. He presents the naïve romance with sensitivity, even while fusing the story with ample dramatic highs. Oddly, for the subject at hand, the film looks a little too polished and slick. Even while the lead pair is struggling to make both ends meet, their fashion quotient always remains high. They rent a cramped, one-room house, but they step out looking prim and propah in almost every situation. For a film that stems from harsh reality, this glossed over aspect makes it unbelievable.

When it comes to the performances, Ishaan’s personality has the energy and zest of a newcomer, while his performance displays the cool confidence of a seasoned actor. He is pitch perfect in dramatic scenes and his puppy eyes keep the innocence of this love story alive. Janhvi looks radiant and beautiful, and her innocence catches the eye. Well, she does come across a little too raw in comparison to her co-star, especially in dramatic scenes that demand a powerful performance. It's her first film, so she's still rough at the edges, but it's a good start. Shridhar Watsar, who plays Inshaan's vertically challenged friend, is a laugh riot, and Ashutosh Rana as the menacing father and political figure is perfectly intense.

The music of the film is a definite highlight. Ajay-Atul pulls the right strings for this one, two tracks from Sairat have been reinvented, one of which is the huge hit Zingaat. The background score of the film (John Stewart Eduri) is designed interestingly and it blends in with the setting of this story. The film also has some stunning cinematography by Vishnu Rao, who makes a pretty picture out of the landscapes of Udaipur. While the editing is crisp in the first half, the pace slackens a bit in the latter parts.

While Parshya and Archi’s love story in Sairat was made with great honesty, realism and depth, giving us a perspective of the deep rooted prejudices in our society, Dhadak touches upon them too, but it merely skims the surface. Perhaps more attention to detail and delving a little deeper into the subject, would have given the film an edge. The lead up to the climax creates palpable tension, and the ending is hard-hitting, leaving you with enough to think about. With all its strengths and weaknesses, Dhadak attempts to highlight some shocking truths about our society and for that it makes a worthy watch.

Storyline Review:

In the anguishing character study “Storyline Story,” dreams dissolve into despair. The film, directed by Boris Lojkine, is a trying narrative about Souleymane (Abou Sangaré), a Guinean immigrant anxiously applying for asylum in France. He is a pure spirit, the kind of person who simply wants to start a new life in a new country, but is hindered by a system that prioritizes exposing one’s trauma over accepting the content of their character. Consequently, if he hopes to gain asylum, he’s tasked with what must be an unnatural act for him. Souleymane must lie.

“Storyline,” an intimate, handsome rendering of his troubles, serves as both his aching statement and a biting critique of an unjust immigration system.

When the film first premiered at Cannes 2024, I respected the picture, but I was admittedly wary of it. I’ve personally seen enough movies that trade in the traumatic memories of a Black person, particularly when a white filmmaker does it. But “Storyline Story” doesn’t fall into that category. Rather, Lojkine and Delphine Agut’s considerate script is sympathetic and discerning about how much of Souleymane’s pain we must swim through.

When we first meet Souleymane, he is awaiting his appointment. There is a bruise around his left eye and smudges on his white shirt that require wiping. We can sense he’s been through an ordeal, we’re just not sure what yet. Lojkine takes us back a few days earlier. He reveals that Souleymane is a food delivery cyclist. He also shows us the intricate approach Souleymane must take to live. Since Souleymane doesn’t have a residence in France, he must rent his delivery account from Emmanuel (Emmanuel Yovanie), who stocks shelves in a beauty store. As we learn from other immigrants like Souleymane, leasing one’s identity is a common practice that Emmanuel is profiting from heavily. With what’s left of his earnings, Souleymane takes classes from Barry (Alpha Oumar Sow), who not only provides the papers necessary for asylum hearings but also develops a cover story for Souleymane.

The tale positions the Guinean as a political refugee who fled from his home country after being arrested in 2019 for his activist activities. In the elaborate narrative, Souleymane joined the socially liberal Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG) in response to President Alpha Condé’s demolition of the homes in his neighborhood. He became a security chief for the UFDG and was eventually arrested in one of the many protests that occurred in 2019. Tortured in prison, he eventually escaped and bounced from country to country until arriving in France. For Souleymane, an honest man who struggles to make up lies much less remember one, the tale proves difficult to memorize.

Worst yet, his earnest, misplaced trust in people pales in the face of capitalism and racism’s grip on those around him. The white people he delivers to either see him as a nuisance or as less than human. Many of the Black people he leans on, such as Emmanuel and Barry, are also quick to judge him. “You Africans, always screwing things up,” sneers Emmauel. “You’re all the same. All of you,” complains Barry. Even the man watching Souleymane’s mother in Guinea is only fixed upon Souleymane paying for his phone credits in return for caring for her. It’s telling that much of cinemagrapher Tristan Galand’s photography here assumes blue hues, and that Xavier Sirven’s repetitions of scenes featuring Souleymane cycling, which are often shot from less-than-intimate medium shots, capture Souleymane’s difficulties. In these apathetic systems, he isn’t a person. He’s an object whose value can only be summed by his trauma, his race, and the little monetary value those around him can siphon.

Thankfully, not every waking moment of Souleymane’s life is horrific. He kids around with his fellow deliverymen, receives genuine help from the people who live in his houseless shelter, and is given other tokens of kindness. A soulful Sangaré, who won the Best Performance prize at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section, also brings vitality and life to a mostly grim story. Though the film takes inspiration from Cristian Mungiu’s “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,” a slice-of-life narrative about a pregnant woman navigating several obstacles to obtain an abortion, Sangaré’s emotive turn also recalls Charles Jang’s incredible work in Sean Baker and Tsou Shih-Ching’s “Take Out.” Like Jang, who plays an undocumented Chinese delivery cyclist in New York City, Sangaré, through a plethora of tightly calibrated facial expressions, quietly translates despair, determination, and hopelessness without resorting to melodrama. The result is a stunningly naked performance.

While “Storyline Story” throws many roadblocks in this Guinean man’s way, it’s pretty clear where we’re heading. And while that predictability does slightly undermine the weightiness of the journey, the ending, a cathartic revelation, is granted immeasurable pathos due to Sangaré’s overwhelming openness as an actor. He pulls the immigration office scene, which in a lesser actor’s hands would be calculating, toward something on the edge of reality. That truth gnaws at every edge of “Souleymane’s Story,” a film whose depth of honesty keeps it feeling refreshingly human.

Baaghi 4 Review:

Once upon a time, a baaghi was one who rebelled against the system. Then, the system won. Baaghi 4 is what comes after — a complete contempt for any system. All you know, and need to, is that Ronny i.e. Tiger Shroff will be thrown into many fights, will spill a lot of blood, will break many bones, and will come away standing — and shirtless. There will be a woman Ronny will love, who will fall into peril, and who will be saved.

The twist in this fourth Baaghi is that Alisha (Sandhu) for whom Ronny pines — mostly while perched at a dangerous angle at a height — may be a product of his own imagination. No one, including Ronny’s unfortunate brother Deepu (Talpade), who certainly keeps the two of them in good digs for a mechanic’s earnings, seems to have ever seen this Alisha. Meanwhile, always around is Olivia a.k.a Pratishtha (a wasted Bajwa), the prostitute with a heart of gold that she is losing to Ronny.

One has one’s doubts about Alisha too as she is a stunner, as at home in a carnival as in doctor’s scrubs at a government hospital or while painting stunning portraits. She lives in this grand mansion of a home where her equally well-manicured sister is fostering dozens of children. The fact that the children only appear once or twice must make all that fostering business easier.

The film itself is set in an imaginary place called Chandara, where carnivals are routine, and mountains and beaches a car-ride away. Presumably funerals with men and women wearing metal masks are also a thing. Is it in this world or somewhere adjacent, along an azure ocean, live the self-declared “shaitaan” played by Akash Mahmud? He keeps tigers as pets in his own grand house with portraits of maharaja-like figures lining walls, wears velvet purple jackets as daily wear, and has a tendency to hover. If Alisha is startled at the sight, more than once, at least that reaction seems genuine.

Sometime in an obscurely defined past, Ronny was in ‘Defence Sea Forces’, as part of which he once catches a small-time druggie using Alisha’s brand-new phone as weapon. As far as meet cute goes, that’s at least original.

War 2 Review:

A few years have passed since the last really fun entry in the Yash Raj Spy Universe, Bollywood’s star-studded approximation of a Desi-fied, Marvel Cinematic Universe-type franchise. “War 2,” led by series fixture Salman Khan, boasts a well-balanced combination of light-hearted action and romance, combined with a level of patience and technical polish that made it easy to get lost in the series’ corny, saber-rattling antics. The other movies in the Yash Raj Spy Universe have ranged from dull to outright embarrassing, as in Shah Rukh Khan’s unfortunate comeback vehicle “War 2.”

“War 2” follows “War,” the only would-be tentpole riser that seemed to warrant a sequel given the palpable tension between that movie’s co-leads, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. Roshan, who went from that earlier movie’s villain to its secret hero, takes the lead in this superior sequel, taking on both his Telugu-language speaking co-star N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and a Spectre-like criminal organization led by terrorists from India’s bordering neighbors, including China, Myanmar, and Pakistan.

The main difference between this new maxi-sized crowd-pleaser and the last few is a matter of degrees. Here, the filmmakers know exactly what kind of movie their audience wants and have a better-than-average plan to deliver it. You say you want more bromantic chemistry, over-the-top action, and flamboyant, logic-defying plot twists? “War 2” delivers all of that.

Series writer Shridhar Raghavan also does a fine job of developing the rivalry between mercenary-turned-secret-agent Kabir (Roshan) and his indomitable adversary, Vikram (Rao Jr.). Normally, you have to wait until after the post-intermission break for enemies to become friends and declare their loyalty to each other with a song and dance. “War 2” gives you that musical number (and not a bad one at that) well ahead of schedule, even though you still have to wait until after the mid-movie break to learn about Vikram’s mysterious past.

The plot, as illogical and inconsequential as it may be, begins after Kabir is forced to execute his former mentor, Colonel Luthra (Ashutosh Rana), on behalf of KALI, a powerful terrorist organization that seems to exist to destroy India. Before Kabir does the deed, he remembers the selfless values that Luthra taught him, which conveniently boil down to a nationalistic mantra: “India first!” After that, Kabir gets chased by Kavya (Kiara Adani), the Colonel’s understandably vexed daughter, and Vikram, who swiftly eclipses Kavya. Without spoiling much, let’s just say that an uneasy and unexpected alliance forms right before KALI gives Kabir his next task: execute the family members of Defense Minister Sarang (Varun Badola). A cascade of double crosses ensues.

A relatively sharp and well-proportioned focus on cornball drama makes all the difference in “War 2”, from Luthra and Kabir’s well-balanced heart-to-heart dialogue to the post-intermission flashbacks that confirm what you likely suspect about Kabir and Vikram—they’re childhood frenemies!

Nothing about “War 2”’s scenario feels fresh, but that seems weirdly fitting given that the movie, like Roshan and Rao, seems to hail from a relatively untroubled and fairly recent past. “War 2” is certainly more visually impressive than most Bollywood star vehicles from the mid-to-late 2000s, but it’s not more sophisticated. That’s okay, though, since “War 2” also has car and boat chases that aren’t over-edited to death, as well as computer graphics to compensate for certain industrial limitations. Better yet, there’s no dissembling about the homo-erotic chemistry between Rosh and Rao’s character, especially not after Vikram declares his instant liking of Roshan in a crowded Spanish mall. There’s also a heated car chase that feels like a cross between “The Da Vinci Code” and “Mission: Impossible—Fallout,” as well as a thrilling boat chase that takes some unexpected turns.

One of the surest signs of “War 2”’s quality can be found in its most underwhelming fight scenes. The movie’s big climax, set in an ice cave that brings to mind “Batman and Robin,” provides a satisfying payoff to Rao and Roshan’s sudsy tension. And while the opening fight scene feels like the worst kind of throwback—Roshan fights an army of ninjas in Japan!—it does continue to escalate until its cringey setup no longer matters as much as the fact that Roshan fights three groups of swordsmen. What a relief to see Roshan headline another satisfying vehicle after “Fighter,” last year’s surprisingly entertaining “Top Gun” rip-off, even if “War 2”’s jingoism is just as disquieting. Rao’s a decent foil for Roshan, too.

Like a number of standout sequels and star vehicles, “War 2” succeeds not by breaking with established formulas, but by doing more to fill them out. Past experience suggests that the filmmakers won’t be able to sustain this movie’s for-the-cheap-seats charms in future sequels, but I look forward to being proven wrong.

Kantara A Legend: Chapter 1 Review:

“The studio was born out of both creative necessity and practical limitations,” Kiragandur explains. “We scoured Karnataka for a facility that could house an elaborate palace set with intricate interiors, but none met our requirements in terms of scale or infrastructure. What began as one studio floor quickly expanded into a full-fledged facility.”

The investment proved strategic beyond mere logistics. “Building our own studio allowed us complete creative control, streamlined production timelines, reduced travel costs — and most importantly — gave our director, Rishab Shetty the peace of mind to realize his vision uncompromised. It became a catalyst for the film’s authenticity.”

That authenticity extends to the film’s core themes, which dig deeper into the spiritual and mythological elements that resonated so powerfully in the original. “The spiritual resonance of the first film was a guiding force as we shaped ‘Chapter 1,'” Kiragandur notes. “The audience’s response to ‘Kantara’ gave us clarity — we knew we had to honor that legacy with focused storytelling.”

This commitment to cultural storytelling positions the film within Hombale’s broader mission to elevate Indian narratives on a global stage. “More than regional, ‘Kantara A Legend: Chapter 1’ is about Indian storytelling,” Kiragandur emphasizes. “Our research frequently led us to marvel at the vast cultural and narrative tapestry this country holds. We could create years of content purely from its untold stories.”

The producer sees untapped potential in India’s rich heritage, noting that “very few filmmakers have dared to explore this territory — perhaps because there’s no Western blueprint to follow. But we don’t see that as a limitation. We see it as a calling.”

While remaining modest about specific production moments that crystallized the film’s exceptional scope, Kiragandur expresses confidence that audiences will recognize the achievement. “There have been several moments, but we’ll let the film speak for itself. We genuinely believe it will leave audiences stunned — not just by the scale, but by the soul.”

When pressed about what distinguishes this production from Hombale’s previous efforts, Kiragandur’s response captures the full weight of the undertaking: “‘Kantara A Legend: Chapter 1’ is undoubtedly our most ambitious project to date — and there are several reasons why. The scale of effort, from the number of shoot days to the sheer volume of manpower, far surpasses anything we’ve undertaken before. But beyond logistics, this film holds a deeply personal place in our hearts. It’s the kind of cinema we’ve always dreamed of creating. At Hombale, our vision has always been to bring Indian cultural roots to life through storytelling. We’ve long aspired to create something for this generation — and for generations to come — that makes them proud of India’s rich heritage.”

“Kantara A Legend: Chapter 1” releases Oct. 2 in the Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali and English languages.

A generational king of Rajkot gets messed with the spoiled brat of a minister in a fight. After that, his life turns upside down with challenges faced from the minister, when he loses his wife and goes to safeguard the people who have received his wife's organs via donations.

Sikandar Review:

Sanjay Rajkot (Salman Khan), the generous and courageous king of Rajkot, is fondly known as Sikandar or Raja
saab

by his people. His clash with a powerful minister (Sathyaraj) leads to the tragic death of his beloved wife, Saisri (Rashmika Mandanna). Before passing away, she donates her organs to three individuals in Mumbai. In a ruthless attempt to erase her memory and break Sanjay’s spirit, the minister targets the recipients—a young boy from the Dharavi slums who receives her lungs, a CA topper whose dreams are stifled by her orthodox father-in-law and receives her eyes, and a college girl heartbroken in love and also with a weak heart.

The film follows Sanjay’s journey as he protects them from harm while helping transform their lives.A Salman Khan movie is a genre in itself, and you know what to expect—gravity-defying action, larger-than-life heroism, and punchy dialogues. Written and directed by A Murugadoss, this actioner checks all these boxes but suffers from an underwhelming plot and cliched narrative. Sikandar is the expected righteous, brave, and invincible figure typical of both the genre and a Salman Khan massive Eid release. He saves 6,000 Dharavi residents by arranging their treatment, empowers a homemaker (Kajal Agarwal), and helps a lost in love college girl. Amid all this, he battles the minister’s henchmen. The predictable storyline is paired with a generic background score by Santhosh Narayanan.

Kevin Kumar’s action direction is limited, with no jaw-dropping, extraordinary stunts to impress you. The few action sequences feel repetitive, with slow-motion shots, flying goons, and exploding cars.Salman Khan drives the film with his signature star power. He strives to deliver an emotional, action-packed performance, but the sluggish narrative holds him back, while throwing in some over-the-top dialogues like, “Ab insaaf ki nahi, inhe saaf karne ki zaroorat hai.” Rashmika Mandanna has a few scenes and some songs, but the problem is not that. Overall, she has a strong screen presence but doesn’t have much to perform or elevate the scenes she appears in.

Vatsan Chakravarthi plays a corrupt cop and fits the role well. The surprise element is Sharman Joshi as Salman’s loyal aide—he holds his own opposite the superstar, delivering a restrained and impactful act.The story and the narrative are the biggest letdown of this larger-than-life movie; even if they are trying to draw in die-hard Salman Khan fans, we wish they had taken the action notches higher. A few standout punches and stunts here and there could have probably salvaged this one.

His rival gangster Chandrashekar tries to create obstacles but fails so he takes the help of politician Balhar Singh. As Maalik is eyeing politics and with a huge support Balhar Singh and Chanrashekar plant on him. Balhar Singh transfers suspended encounter specialist Prabhu Das to Allhabad to control on Maalik's movements but the fearless gangster is in no mood to do so.The only person whom can stop Maalik is his mentor Shakti Singh who saw a simple young Deepak turn into a gangster Maalik. But Maalik now is so powerful and fearless that even Shakti Sing can't stop him and the only option to stop Maalik is by eliminating him.

Maalik  Review:

Director Pulkit’s film is an outdated gangster drama that suffers from dull storytelling and a convoluted screenplay. Written by Jyotsana Nath and Pulkit, the narrative offers little insight into Deepak’s rise in the world of crime—apart from an unconvincing origin story where his helpless father is beaten by a powerful boss, prompting Deepak to take up crime and assume the name Maalik. There’s no substantial plot beyond one gangbanger or the other trying to bring him down. This includes MLA Balhar (Swanand Kirkire), who ropes in a suspended SP from Kolkata, Prabhu Das (Prosenjit Chatterjee), to arrest Maalik. His mentor, Shankar Singh (Saurabh Shukla), and rival, Chandrashekhar (Saurabh Sachdeva), also turn against him. The film simply drags on as each tries to eliminate him, and he defeats them one by one. As the viewer begins to lose track of who’s chasing him and when, the plot devolves into relentless shootouts that quickly become tedious. The narrative briefly gains momentum in the second half, and some of the action sequences are shot with finesse, especially the climax.Although the lack of a compelling plotline makes the viewing experience cumbersome, the film maintains an even pace. A major betrayal toward the end, however, renders the story trite. Anuj Rakesh Dhawan’s cinematography and Ketan Sodha’s background score lend some polish to the overall narrative.Rajkummar Rao delivers a strong performance. He strikes a balance between being a dreaded gangster and a caring family man. Even in a brief role, Prosenjit Chatterjee delivers a fine act as the SP determined to bring Maalik down. Manushi Chhillar has limited screen time but is decent as Maalik’s wife. Anshumaan Pushkar is also effective as Maalik’s college friend turned trusted aide. The other supporting cast—Saurabh Shukla, Swanand Kirkire, and Saurabh Sachdeva—lend able support.Maalik is an uninspired and clichéd gangster drama that offers little novelty and can be skipped.
